TIME

We are starting to learn about time. Students have learned about the hour hand (courte aiguille) and the minute hand (longue aiguille) and how to read the time to the hour and the half-hour on both the analog and digital clock. Students are also associating time of day with particular activities (e.g. 9:00 in the morning I go to school). Here are some activities that you and your child might like to play to reinforce this concept.

Telling Time Game

Click on the link to play. This is a terrific game where children are shown a time and then need to move the hour hand and the minute hand to the correct position. The game checks their answers immediately and once you've completed a level successfully you move on to the next level. Remember that the hour hand is always between two numbers when showing time to the half hour.

Clock Face Race

blank-clock-faces-without-numbers1.jpgTo play this game you need 2 die and a pencil for each player.
Print a copy of this clock face for each player.
Fill in the number 1 in the correct position on the clock before beginning.
Take turns rolling the die and adding them together. (e.g. rolling a 2 and a 3 equals 5, so you fill in the 5 in the correct position on the clock)
Write the sum (answer) in the correct position on the clock.
Continue taking turns. If you roll a number that you already have on your clock face, you miss a turn.
The first player to complete their clockface wins!

Writing Time

The following worksheet you can use with your child to practice reading/telling and/or writing time. Take out two pencils (crayons, pens, etc), one that's a bit longer then the other to distinguish between the minute hand and the hour hand - you might like to use colour to identify the two hands as well. Tell your child a time and have him/her show it to you on the analog and digital clock. You might want to print several copies, or have your child write the digital time in different places on the paper and not necessarily in the box provided in order to get more practice.
